- listen to and watch Chicago nonprofits on their work and on the issues via iTunes and YouTube,
-
keep up with Beechwood Reporter and other relevant blogs, and

People to Pitch
More Latinos are moving to the suburbs and following this trend, Hoy, Chicago’s daily Spanish-speaking newspaper, extended its distribution and coverage area Sept. 17 to reach this audience. Two pages of daily news now focus on the suburbs of Aurora, Joliet, Carpentersville, Elgin and Waukeegan. Mercedes Fernandez, reporter for the section, is interested in issues affecting the suburban Latino community like immigration, health, bilingual education and fair housing. Mercedes likes human stories or those reflecting the hardworking, “simple people that fit the profile of a Latino person living in the suburbs.”
The suburban section also includes a community agenda where nonprofits can post workshops or events of interest to the Latino community – make sure to submit it a week in advance. The best way to pitch Mercedes or send her an event is at mefernandez@hoyllc.com.
