Let's Face it: My Space for Making Media Connections

Its not too late to register for the 2008 Making Media Connections Conference, although workshops are filling up fast! The following workshops are now closed: Spin 101, Writing to Make News, Incorporating Video into Nonprofit Messaging, and Social Media Game for Non-profits.

With more than 60 presenters from the Windy City Times to The New York Times and from ChicagoCarless to TechSoup, experts will be on hand to help you learn to tell your stories and generate media attention. Make sure you check out and register for Thursday Panel sessions.

Online Civil Rights Press Center
The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights is creating an on-line Civil Rights Press Center, “an up-to-date and robust collection of press releases addressing news on a range of civil rights issues. This Press Center can both increase the distributional reach of your press releases and serve as a one-stop shop for those interested in what civil rights news is presently ripe for coverage.”

The New York City-based group will also host a directory of communications contacts at civil rights organizations, making it easy for members of the media to locate experts on a range of issues according to Tanene Allison, media campaign coordinator at the National Campaign. Nominate your Youth Members for a FURI Scholarship
The Fair Use Remix Institute (FURI) gives video training to youth between the ages 15 and 19 and has scholarships available at www.youthlab.net for this summer’s 2-week training course. Participants will gain hands-on experience creating mash-ups and remixes of political perspectives and learning Final Cut Pro. Workshop is Monday through Friday, July 7 through 18.

Valerie Denney Communications
Valerie Denney Communications (VDC) is a seven-person, 20-year-old firm specializing in public relations for non-profits, government agencies and philanthropic institutions. They are searching for an accounts executive to develop and implement client communications strategies and oversee client fees and expense billing payments. Candidate will have least a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Political Science or other related field. The Senior Account Executive also must have at least 5 to 7 years of communications and/or account management experience within a public relations agency, not for profit organization, government, or corporation. Broadcast News Producer
Illinois News Service
Illinois News Service needs a radio producer who is passionate about social/environmental/economic and community issues.  Candidate must have a starting average of 10 to15 radio spot news stories per month on the public interest non-profit beat statewide. They will also have broadcast editorial newsroom/reporting experience (commercial stations and wire service work preferred) with excellent editorial, technical skills and interpersonal skills.  Pay is $100 per story plus $300 monthly research stipend and hard costs covered.  Please apply with the required skills/experience.  Send cover letter and resume to jobs@publicnewsservice.org
