Future of Gun Control in Chicago
April 11th, 2008For the first time in almost 70 years, the U.S. Supreme Court is addressing one of the most hotly contested constitutional debates – our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The revival stems from a Washington D.C. court case ruling that, under the amendment, an individual’s rights are protected. If the High Court agrees, Washington D.C., and other cities with strict handgun laws like Chicago, will have to change their rules.
But in Chicago, where the majority of homicides involve a firearm, wouldn’t it be unconscionable to relax gun laws of any kind?On this episode of Community, Media & You with host Thom Clark, we’ll talk with members of an advisory group from the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Working to pass gun reform policies in Illinois, the Campaign educates the media and community on gun related issues. Joining me are Campaign members Stephen Young, Nina Vinik and 12th ward Alderman George Cardenas.
